There
are three basic types of shows we offer...
|
concerts |
At performance venues, or college concerts,
or even clubs, we can and will do much more of an edgy show, full of the creativity and energy that we have become known for. Also, we will
sometimes include more Hip-Hop
and/or Jazz-oriented songs, or what we call remixes of our
swing songs. We actually enjoy these types of programs because we able to really stretch out and express ourselves. We find most of our more dedicated fans at these types of shows. We play about 70% originals, 30% covers, but always with our own
totally fresh and surprising treatments. The variety of
sounds, rhythms, and soulful high energy never leaves the crowd
wanting anything but more!

private
parties |
We
also play a variety of private affairs within the course of the
year. Please don't hesitate to check out our bio page, where we
have a
list
of the various huge parties we have played. You will find that
we have performed for everyone from Mayor Rudy Guiliani's
Christmas party to serving two years in a row as the official
swing band for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation!
When you book the Hounds at your party, you are
booking a concept, a look, not to mention a well known group
that is not just some schlock wedding band with different
members for every gig, Why pay through the nose where the
agency gets more than half of your hard earned money? Book the
Hounds and you will be booking direct, and as a result you will
find that this actual recording and performing artist is
substantially more affordable than most "wedding bands".
The Hounds are a paying member of the
Wedding Channel
as well as
allweddings.com. No one can
get down and party like we can, especially when it comes to a
"Swing Party Theme". We can even bring
along professional swing instructors, to get your friends and
family "In the Mood" between the cocktail hour and
your reception! (This has been a huge success for those who
have tried it!)
We can provide
a deejay as well as our own sound system, in cases where you are
not planning upon hiring one. We also work closely with a
professional event planner, Venessa at
Timeless
Events,
who can provide expert help should any organizational needs
occur. You will find that no bands are as versatile,
especially in the "swing" idiom, than the Yalloppin'
Hounds. We can cover virtually any style of music and/or song
you may favor, from Blues to Pop; Funk to Salsa. We feature
seven pieces normally, but can be expanded if requested. There
are three horns, three in the rhythm section, and one lovely
female vocalist. Three of the instrumentalists also double on
vocals. Full packages and references can be furnished upon
request. Please feel free to get in touch and ask us any
question that might be on your mind!

swing
dances |
The Yalloppin' Hounds have many different approaches to performance, and it is mainly determined by the style of venue. For example, if we are hired to play in Swing Club, we will put on more of a show, in other words, a performance styled program. If we are hired for what is specifically termed a
dance, we alter our programming somewhat to better serve the dancers. Shorter songs, and more of them, approximately ten per 50 minute set, are to be expected, as well as a minimum of talking between songs. We play most songs at a wide variety of medium tempi, with no
really fast tunes, unless specifically requested, and yes, we do usually feature at least two ballads per performance.
We can and will
play a variety of styles as per the current trend in modern
swing dance. For instance, may play some funky bluesy material
for a "West Coast" dance, or some smooth straight
ahead swing for the post modern Savoy crowd. We do not have any
particular aversion to any of these musically, so be sure to
speak up and let us know exactly what you would like at your
event, we are indeed the one and versatile enough to cut it!
Generally, we play about 70% originals, 30% covers, but always with our own treatment.
Modern Swing
Musicality: a workshop
We also now
offer something totally new: a "musicality workshop"
package for dance societies. From our experience, much has
been covered by dance societies, workshops and schools in terms
of the conceptual, technical, and connection aspects of the
dance, but true musicality workshops are hard to come by. With
our suite for swing dancers entitled "Lindy Hop
Deluxe", (premiered at the 2001 American Lindy Hop
Championships), we have composed a virtual canvas for the
improvising dancer to design with his or her own spontaneous
interpretation. The workshop will encompass a full day of
discussions on the musical aspects of swing that relate to the
dance. We feature, when available, the very great New York
dancers known for their incredible improvisatory reaction
skills, Chris Lockhart and Lenore Pemberton. They will conduct
classes for all dancers of all levels, along with the musicians,
who will be broken up into smaller sections to extensively
explore the correlation between the various instruments, their
roles within the music and how they affect the dancer. The day
would of course culminate in a public social dance featuring the
full band. Dancers who attended the workshops will be
invited to take part in the "Lindy Hop Deluxe" as the
first set of the performance, which would also be videoed for
posterity. The balance of the first set and the entire second
set would be a simple social dance.
